That's Women's Work - Who You Gonna Call? Faux Finisher!

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, I’m introducing you to an Irish lass who opened her own Faux Finishing company over twenty two years ago.  What became “The Decorative Finish” began as a passionate hobby; a common theme in female owned small businesses.
Marian Murphy was a mother of three young children at the time, all of whom have assisted her on jobs over the years.  “Even when they were very little, I found age appropriate tasks for them.  My youngest son, Sean, would hand tools up to me when I was on the ladder.”  It was her oldest, Erin, who would share her love of painting and works with Marian on bigger jobs to this day.
Marian’s background was in drafting, prior to the computer age.  She admits that her drafting skills are obsolete now, but the attention to detail and accurate measurements apply to faux finishing.  “Just as a carpenter is taught to measure twice, cut once – so it is with painting a striped wall!”
I have had the pleasure of knowing Marian, both as her client and as a contracted faux finisher for my Staging and Design business.  You can see a Before and After of her work in my very own powder room at .  I am very happy with the results!
Meet Marian (and me!), this Saturday, March 15th, 2014.  We will be ringing in St. Patrick’s Day at the La Grange Park Antique Mall (800 E. 31st St. LGP) from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Drop by and wander the multiple booths (we are two of many) searching for treasure.  The March deal there is 25% off anything with GREEN on it!
You are limited only by your imagination.  Happy Spring!
